Welcome to the first weekly edition of the Winnipeg Jets “Flightpath”! This feature of Chuck and Geoff’s blog will chronicle the Jets’ flightpath on a weekly basis.

Currently, the Jets’ prospects are participating in the third annual “Young Stars Tournament”, in Penticton B.C. There are a few players playing on a “tryout” basis, and a few that were unable to attend (mainly the U.S. college prospects, who would have issues with their amateur status – Tucker Poolman and Andrew Copp).

Well, the first 2 games won’t be recorded in any archives of great historical hockey games. But they did give Jets fans a lot to be excited about!

In game 1, I thought Nick Ehlers, Josh Morrisey and Adam Lowry looked really good. Honourable mentions went to Bloomqvist and Brassard, who made many solid rushes. Brassard scored a nice goal on a conversion of a great pass. Ehlers scored a beauty on a rush up the centre of the ice, showing great speed and timing.

Game 2’s stars were Petan (nice overtime winner), Kosmachuck, Brassard, and Lipon. Lipon controlled the boards during both game 1 and 2, while Brassard continues to show some scoring finish. Kosmachuck scored twice, with great instincts for the net.

Altogether, the Jets are icing an impressive array of great young talent (not including Mark Scheifele and Jacob Trouba, who made the big team last year, and Michael Hutchinson(goal)):

That’s not a complete list of the Jets draft picks or prospects – just the ones that have shown really positive signs in junior, college, the AHL, or tournaments like this.

I am absolutely thrilled to watch the Jets preseason games, and perhaps early regular season games, hoping to catch these great young players live on the ice, against NHL competition!

Who knows? We might get a chance to experience some magic, like Scheifele’s 4 point night in the first Jets 2.0 game ever – the first preseason game in 2011! We may get to see the earliest flashes from brilliant young stars like Nick Ehlers!

“Stand pat Chevy”, you say?

Bring it on! I can’t wait to see them!

GO JETS GO!!!!!!!
