I will keep this brief and to the point. There was absolutely no need for Stephen Harper to drop the writ and begin an arduous 11 week election campaign. Harper’s Conservatives know that most Canadians do not pay any attention to politics and election campaigns during our very short summer months; Harper is counting on that. He is counting on the NDP, Liberals and Greens having to spend relatively limited campaign money during the month of August…while his war chest overflows.
Most readers know where I stand politically. However, given the ridiculous early call for this campaign to begin…
This federal election campaign will not be discussed, referenced or debated until the Labour Day weekend.
***I will throw in one caveat…if there is important breaking news about the campaign, I will acknowledge and discuss whatever has occurred.***
“As societies grow decadent, the language grows decadent, too. Words are used to disguise, not to illuminate, action: you liberate a city by destroying it. Words are to confuse, so that at election time people will solemnly vote against their own interests.”
Gore Vidal
“Each party steals so many articles of faith from the other, and the candidates spend so much time making each other’s speeches, that by the time election day is past there is nothing much to do save turn the sitting rascals out and let a new gang in.”
H. L. Mencken
Reblogged this on Chuck's Eclectic Blog, which asks the tough questions and discusses the issues… and commented:
Most readers know where I stand on the political spectrum; I will not give in to an unnecessary 11 week federal election campaign…my thoughts and analysis will begin Labour Day weekend…till then, let’s enjoy what’s left of our summer.
