I had received a call from a detective who had often fed me information. They had just found a female and male body…and it was gruesome. He said I could come to the site, but could not get to0 close. Santangelo had often given me the heads up, but this time was different. He sounded shaken, disturbed, so I knew I had to get there quickly.
I drove through Osborne Village and found the condo on River Avenue. The building was surrounded by police cars and curious onlookers. I saw Santangelo and he waved me over.
“Neighbours called in that they were hearing loud noises and screams from one of the condos, so police were the first to respond. It didn’t take long before they called us…have to be honest, in all my years, never have I seen anything like this. When we walked in, there was blood everywhere; and right in the centre of the stained, shimmering hard wood floor, there was a head, the head of a man!!! I thought I was going to throw up; his torso had been slashed numerous times and about eight feet over from him lay the body of a beautiful woman. Her wrists were slashed and blood was all over her…despite her comatose state, there seemed to be a sneering smile coming from her.” Santangelo was called away and I had to deal with what he had given me…
This apparent murder-suicide was going to rock the neighbourhood. Who was this woman? why the violent murder? why the suicide? did the neighbours know her?
I’m glad Sanatangelo got hold of me first; he knew how I showed my appreciation…this had been going on for a few years, but putting out for a cop had been easy…little did he know.
