At the start of this 5 game series with St. Paul, Mgr. Rick Forney had said that he needed his starters to eat up some innings to give a tired bull pen a rest, well after this Thursday’s early morning game, it can be said “mission accomplished” The game was an 11:20 start, and Goldeyes starter Mikey O’Brien was almost flawless; he gave up 3 runs on 2 hits, 1 B/B & 3 K’s in a convincing 9 – 3 win over ST.Paul Saints. At one point Mikey retired 17 straight Saints batters. In the 8th. Victor Capellan needed only 7 pitches for the 3 outs. Eric Eadington came on in the 9 and went 1 – 2 – 3 with 2 K.s. Our pitching was very impressive today.
Great defence from all the guys. Ridge Hoopii-Haslam had 3 R.B.I.s including a home run. Casio Grider also had 3 R.B.I.s., single R.B.I.s from Adam Heisler and David Rohm. Ridge also had a double, as did Casio.
The Fish take 4 out of 5 from the North Division leading St. Paul Saints, leaving the Fish just 4 1/2 games out of first. Additionally, the win puts the Goldeyes up 4 games on the Laredo Lemers with just 17 games left in the regular season. The Fish can’t let up now; they need to keep playing the solid defence, timely hitting and great pitching which has left them in a great position…”they’re scared of us now” said one of the Goldeyes players after yesterday’s game with St. Paul.
Now it’s onto the bus and as the Goldeyes head down to Sioux City for 3 before returning home to begin a 7 game homestand starting Monday. Aug.22nd. with Fargo in town for a 4 game series.
