“This is like the olden days, when everyone would sit around the radio listening to sports.”
My 8 year old grandson Ben, commenting on listening to the game last night!!

It all comes down to one game tonight in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Game number 105 of this season for the Winnipeg Goldeyes and St. Paul Saints will decide who moves on to the American League Championship series.

Last night the Goldeyes scratched and clawed their way to a dramatic 5-4 win.  From starting pitcher Edwin Carl coming out of the bullpen, to Reggie Abercrombie stealing home, t0 Maikol Gonzalez showing tremendous patience and discipline in the 9th inning to draw a walk and bring in the winning run, to great pitching by Winston Abreu in the bottom of the 9th…the Goldeyes showed heart and resiliency to force a deciding game.

The Goldeyes will send Mikey O’Brien to the mound, while the Saints will count on their ace Mark Hamburger.  Given that the Saints have had only 8 pitchers dressed throughout the Series, getting to Hamburger early and forcing the Saints to go to the pen would be huge for the Fish.  It’s all hands on deck for the Goldeyes…I would expect that everybody in the bullpen will be ready to go at a moments notice; whether starter or reliever, they’ve got to be ready to get an out or give a couple of innings.  Goldeyes skipper Rick Forney can’t be thinking of game 1 of the Championship Series…all that matters is tonight.  If it means bringing in your ace, Kevin McGovern, to get a left handed batter, you do it!!

I’ve said all season, Adam Heisler and Maikol Gonazalez, at the top of the order, set the table for the Goldeyes big bats, Cabrera, Abercrombie, Romanski and Rohm…Grider, Darvill and Tanabe have also contributed in a big way, and patience and not giving away AB’s will be key tonight.

After travelling on buses all summer, sleeping in hotels and eating a lot of Subway, it all comes down to this one game.

As Oakland Raiders owner, the late Al Davis used to say:  JUST WIN BABY!! JUST WIN!!
