Racism always has been a divisive issue in the United States of America; going back to the times of slavery to the celebration of Jackie Robinson being the first African American player to play in the Majors.
Here we are in 2017, the United States led by a racist president, and the sports fans in Boston continue their sad history of racist behaviour towards professional athletes.
As a kid it struck me that the Boston Red Sox always had an all white team; in fact they were the last team to have a black player on their roster. The Boston Celtics, in a sport dominated by African Americans, routinely started three or four white players. The New England Patriots were the last team to start a black QB and that wasn’t until 2016.
MLB recently celebrated the 70 year anniversary of Jackie Robinson entering the white Major Leagues. Perhaps Boston fans can grow up and shed their image of blatant racists and stop taunting players like Adam Jones with the “N” word. Jones is a classy young man, while Boston is still Boston and always will be.
“I’ve never been called the N-word” anywhere but in Boston while in the major leagues,” said CC Sabathia, a 17-year MLB veteran. “It’s nothing new for any of us when we go to Boston” said Atlanta outfielder Matt Kemp
David Price says he heard racist taunts from Red Sox fans at Fenway Park in 2016
Tori Hunter claimed that trips to Boston were always filled with racism. “My first five or six [years], I was ‘That n-word,'” he said. “Some people would chant that out, some people would throw beer or whatever…batteries.”

Bruins fans took to Twitter and let off tweets like this after Joel Ward scored the game winning goal: “The fact that a n**** got the goal makes it ten times worse #gobacktoafrica.
After PK Suban scored the winning goal for Montreal in double overtime…”That stupid n**** doesn’t belong in hockey #whitesonly,” one wrote. “The Bruins will come back but Subban will always be a n****,” another said.
