Tandem

Rising high on tandem,

Gaining speed uphill,

Calling Courtney “Pedal!” –

Resistance to the wheel.

Pause to catch my breath,

Heart pounding in my chest.

My peace is in the air –

The pines release their scent.

Mountains grey and brooding,

Quietly majestic.

Grooves wind like knots in trees,

Riddling like a sphinx.

“Court, come on let’s pedal!”

Dynamic power within,

We climb the hill at last,

And cheer the downhill spin.

At night by firelight ponder

The mysteries’ retreat –

Our unabated joy despite

Their secrets’ faux defeat.
