Winnipeg Goldeyes ace, Kevin McGovern, gave his team a great six innings of pitching, but the bullpen couldn’t hold a 3-1 lead and eventually fell to the Wichita Wingnuts, 5-3.
Wichita now has a 2-1 lead in the best of 5 American Association Championship Series.
Goldeyes jumped out to an early 3-1 lead and appeared to be cruising. But, it was a little unsettling seeing the Goldeyes not being able to put together any more productive hits; eventually the Goldeyes went to their bullpen and Victor Capellan, who had been lights out all season, struggled and gave up the lead to the strong hitting team from Wichita.
“You tip your hat to them. They did a great job. They’re a good hitting team over there.” Rick Forney.
Most of the Goldeyes lineup is familiar with this situation, being down and having to win in a championship series. Twice in the 2016 Finals, the Goldeyes came back from 2-0 deficits to win the championship. Rest assured guys like Reggie Abercrombie, Josh Romanski, David Rohm and Kevin McGovern will make sure to keep the new guys focused and ready for Game 4. “This team, all year, we’ve always battled. Being down 2-1, the vibe in the clubhouse is still up!!” Sean Pleffner.
Despite rally caps…the Goldeyes couldn’t fight back.
Now it’s up to Charle Rosario, acquired in a late season mega-trade, to give the Goldeyes a strong starting performance…while the Goldeyes bats need to heat up and take this series to a 5th game on Tuesday night.
The Goldeyes had a great crowd on a cool, windy Sunday afternoon…tickets for tonight and Tuesday can be bought at the Goldeyes box office at Shaw Park, through TicketMaster or by calling 204-982-2273.
