This summer  the Winnipeg Goldeyes will be celebrating 25 years of baseball.  It feels like just ten minutes ago Sam Katz was announcing that the Goldeyes would be returning and playing ball at the old Winnipeg Stadium; and what a first year that was…with Doug Siminuc leading the way, the Goldeyes captured the Northern League Championship.

Now. 25 years later, under the helm of manager Rick Forney, the Goldeyes are a well run machine, having won three championships in the last five seasons!!   On every championship team, there is that one player who leads the way, inspires the kids on the team and does whatever it takes to win.

The Goldeyes have that in Reggie Abercrombie; he is passionate about the game, is a great leader for the young players and makes sure that everybody on the team has their focus in the right place…winning!!  As a fan, you couldn’t ask for much more; Reggie is generous with his time, stops to talk to fans and makes you feel like the ballpark is the best place in the world to be on a hot summer’s night.

Yesterday, manager Rick Forney announced that Reggie would be returning!!  I was starting to think that Reg may be retiring after winning back to back American Association championships…but, it would seem, that the little boy in him wants one more season of baseball!!  Welcome back Reggie!!

  1. That was SWEET music to my ears when Rick announced that Reggie would be coming back for another season.Reggie is a natural leader, on the playing field, in the dugout, and The Mayor of the clubhouse. Gets himself and teammates primed to help out the Goldeyes Organization when the players go to the Children’s Hospital, Schools to read to the kids and any functions Goldeyes put on throughout the summer promoting baseball to all beginners and other baseball enthusiasts at Shaw Park.
PLUS Reggie takes the time each home game to come over and visit with the old guy who sits in Seat 1 of Section E. a Family discussion as I call it.One more year at his summer home, Thanks, Reggie..
