As a kid, Patrik Laine had posters of his boyhood hero, Alex Ovechkin, up on his walls. He dreamed of playing hockey like the Great 8. Finnish stars Teemu Selanne and Jari Kuri weren’t at the top of his list…it was Washington Capitals star, Alex Ovechkin.
Tonight, Laine gets to face off against his boyhood idol, Alex Ovechkin. They are currently tied for the lead in goals in the NHL, with 40. Laine is driven to be the best at whatever he does, and the Rocket Richard trophy is in his sights. Not only that trophy, but hitting 50 goals is also on the radar for the Finnisher!! Having passed both Sydney Crosby and Wayne Gretzky in goals by a teenager (76), young Patrik has his sights set on passing former Winnipeg Jet great, Dale Hawerchuk.
Laine knows that Ovechkin won’t go down without a fight. Both Ovi and Laine will be wired tonight to show the other that they are the King…the best. As a Winnipeg Jets fan, it’s great seeing one of our own, right up their battling for goal scoring supremacy.
All eyes in the hockey world will be on the game between the Winnipeg Jets and the Washington Capitals tonight at 6:00 PM Central Time. As a Jets fan, I truly am more concerned about getting the W. How does this sound Jets fans? A 3-2 Jets win, with Laine getting 2 and Ovi 1…now wouldn’t that be a sweet night!
