THE STALKER!!

  • Phew…just catching my breath from that debate.
  • Dictators like Stalin had their political opponents arrested after elections; in Mexico, the gangs kidnap or kill their political opponents; Trumps threat last night…democracy at its’ worst.
  • When will Bombers QB, Matt Nichols get the accolades he deserves for turning the Bombers season around?
  • It got cold out waaaaaaay too early…it’s only the start of October!!
  • Former Republican candidate for President, Mitt Romney: “I don’t know how any woman could ever vote for Donald Trump.”
  • Intrigues me to see the Jets final cuts…could be some big surprises.
  • Love watching guys like Donaldson, Pillar, Tulo and EE play baseball.
  • Trump was prowling like a bear and at times it looked like he was stalking Clinton.
  • I don’t know what Coach Maurice and his coaches see in Chris Thorburn that I don’t; I’d make him a playing coach with the Moose.
  • Playoff baseball takes the game to a whole other level of intensity.
  • Much like the Goldeyes, the Jays made the playoffs on the final day of the season and just got on a roll…
  • Moe Leggett, now he’s a heart and soul football player.moe
  • I hope everybody is enjoying their cut of the PST from 8% to 7%…what, it hasn’t happened yet?…
  • How many days till the hot beaches of Puerto Vallarta?
  • I have been in a lot of locker rooms throughout my life…and with some pretty wild guys…I’ve never heard talk like that of Trump and Bush; to say its sickening would be an understatement.
  • Wireless headphones…very, very cool!!
  • Head colds are never ending…feels like there is a balloon in there which won’t go away.
  • Patrick Laine struggled through the pre-season; it’s a different game in the NHL and it’s gong to take him some time to adapt to the more physical play and the smaller ice-surface.
  • Twitter…could you imagine what Watergate would have been like had there been Twitter and Facebook.
  • So many parallels between Trump and Richard Nixon.
  • Robert de Niro!!!  “You talkin to me?”…”No, I’m talking to that fat pig Trump”!!robert-de-niro1-640x360
  • Excited to pick up my Goldeyes Championship hoodie tomorrow!
  • Never knew who she was before, but Ana Navaro, a Republican from Florida…has become the voice of those who are sick and tired of Trump; she tells it like it is.
  • Jets home opener on Thursday night; first game of the season…always an exciting game…will be interesting to see how the young guys, Conner, Morrisey, Laine and Ehlers do this season.
  • I expect more Trump bombshells this week…would not shock me if more tapes came out.
  • Sure not into the NFL like I used to be…
  • Loving the Springsteen bio, Born to Run.
  • Nice to see Chelsea Clinton sitting beside her dad, Bill, and supporting him through what must have been a very difficult night.
  • Hate seeing a young kid like Jacob Trouba having his career ruined by his agent.
  • There are few people in this world whom I can honestly say I dislike…but “you” have become one of them.

In his new autobiography, Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen talks about his Depression and Clinical Depression…by Chuck Duboff

© Chuck Duboff

Bruce thinking

“Over the years, Springsteen has been forthcoming about the fact that he is prone to depression, for which he has sought relief through both therapy and antidepressants. In the book, he delves more deeply still into the subject. There is his clinical depression itself, he explained to me, and then a compounding fear that he is doomed to suffer as his father did. “You don’t know the illness’s parameters,” he said. “Can I get sick enough to where I become a lot more like my father than I thought I might?”

He acknowledges in Born to Run that his struggles are ongoing, and shares stories from the not-so-distant past. “I was crushed between sixty and sixty-two, good for a year and out again from sixty-three to sixty-four,”

This is from a Vanity Fair article which profiles Bruce Springsteen and discusses his forthcoming book, Born to Run:  http://www.salon.com/2016/09/06/bruce-springsteen-opens-up-about-clinical-depression-you-do-not-know-the-illnesss-parameters/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=socialflow

I have always felt a strong connection to the Boss; understood his words, his pain, his dark bedrooms…”I was crushed between sixty and sixty-two” he says, much like I am experiencing now.

Does it make life any easier knowing that people like Bruce Springsteen, Jon Hamm, Duane “the Rock” Johnson, Winston Churchill, Clara Hughes, Michael Landsburg, Robin Williams, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Gwenyth Paltrow, all had to face the demons which render you helpless.  At some level it does, at a different level I ask myself…if they struggle with depression, what hope do I have?

Watching a dear friend battle depression and take her own life just a few short years ago was painful.  At 44 she could no longer live with the demons which controlled her life.

pitt

Bruce has fought this battle his whole life; he lived with a father who was verbally abusive and crushed his spirit, much like I did.  “I think it’s great for him to write about depression. A lot of his work comes from him trying to overcome that part of himself.” says his supportive and loving wife, Patti Scialfa.

It’s a battle, it it’s a 24/7 battle; and when life is peaceful and good, you know that at any moment that switch can be flipped and suddenly the demon is back in control of your life…

The most painful part of depression is when you are judged by others, who take no time to understand the unbearable struggles.  For people who struggle with depression, it is not a choice.  “hmm, I think I am going to be depressed today.”  It’s not like that at all; life can be good, flowing smoothly, when out of nowhere the demons arrive, take over and you are caught in their grips for as long as they decide to hold on.  As Brad Pitt stated: “I couldn’t wait to get home and hide out.”

My connection to Bruce has been for a life time; his words, his music, speak to me.  To write a very public auto-biography detailing his depression and clinical depression took an immense amount of courage…I look forward to reading Born to Run when it is released.

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band take a stand against bigotry in North Carolina…by Chuck Duboff

© Chuck Duboff
bruce-springsteen-signs-late-sli
Being a fan of Bruce Springsteen my whole life, I am so very proud to see him and his band stand up to the neanderthal legislation which was recently passed in North Carolina.  The law which was enacted would take away basic human rights for LGBT citizens…and essentially give permission for the bigots of North Carolina to spew their venom on innocent citizens.
Many an actor, writer, athlete, musician has taken a stand for something they believe in.  At the same time there have been many celebrities  who have stayed on the sideline in order to protect their image and not offend anyone.  (Michael Jordan is one who comes to mind.)
Bruce Sprinsteen’s music has always spoken to justice, fairness and human rights for all.

In Springsteen’s album The Ghost of Tom Joad, the title track reminds us that there are still many people living in the underbelly of society, who need somebody to fight on their behalf.

By cancelling the band’s concert in North Carolina, Bruce Springsteen is taking a stand against bigotry.  He didn’t have to do this…he could have shut his eyes and earned another big pay cheque.  But any true fan of Bruce Springsteen knows…that isn’t the Boss.  He will stand up for what he believes in, as should each and every one of us!!
As Bruce said yesterday: “There are some things in life that are bigger than a rock concert.”
“Evil will flourish when goodness remains silent!!”

A Statement from Bruce Springsteen on North Carolina
As you, my fans, know I’m scheduled to play in Greensboro, North Carolina this Sunday. As we also know, North Carolina has just passed HB2, which the media are referring to as the “bathroom” law. HB2 — known officially as the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act — dictates which bathrooms transgender people are permitted to use. Just as important, the law also attacks the rights of LGBT citizens to sue when their human rights are violated in the workplace. No other group of North Carolinians faces such a burden. To my mind, it’s an attempt by people who cannot stand the progress our country has made in recognizing the human rights of all of our citizens to overturn that progress. Right now, there are many groups, businesses, and individuals in North Carolina working to oppose and overcome these negative developments. Taking all of this into account, I feel that this is a time for me and the band to show solidarity for those freedom fighters. As a result, and with deepest apologies to our dedicated fans in Greensboro, we have canceled our show scheduled for Sunday, April 10th. Some things are more important than a rock show and this fight against prejudice and bigotry — which is happening as I write — is one of them. It is the strongest means I have for raising my voice in opposition to those who continue to push us backwards instead of forwards.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s Sunday April 10th show is canceled. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.

Thunder Road…by Bruce Springsteen. The 40th Anniversary of the release of Born to Run!!!!!

Cover album

Thunder Road
Lyrics: Bruce Springsteen

The screen door slams, Mary’s dress sways
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays, Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that’s me and I want you only

Don’t turn me home again
I just can’t face myself alone again
Don’t you run back inside, darling
You know just what I’m here for

So you’re scared and you’re thinking
That maybe we ain’t that young anymore
Show a little faith, there’s magic in the night
You ain’t a beauty, but hey you’re alright
Oh, and that’s alright with me

You can hide ‘neath your covers
And study your pain
Make crosses from your lovers
Throw roses in the rain

Waste your summer praying in vain
For a savior to rise from these streets
Well now, I’m no hero, that’s understood
All the redemption I can offer, girl, is beneath this dirty hood

With a chance to make it good somehow
Hey, what else can we do now?
Except roll down the window
And let the wind blow back your hair

Well, the night’s busted open
These two lanes will take us anywhere
We got one last chance to make it real
To trade in these wings on some wheels
Climb in back, Heaven’s waiting down on the tracks

Oh oh, come take my hand
We’re riding out tonight to case the promised land
Woah oh oh, thunder road, oh thunder road, oh thunder road

Lying out there, like a killer in the sun
Hey I know it’s late, we can make it if we run
Woah oh oh, thunder road, sit tight, take hold, thunder road

Well, I got this guitar, and I learned how to make it talk
And my car’s out back, if you’re ready to take that long walk
From your front porch to my front seat
The door’s open but the ride, it ain’t free

And I know you’re waiting
For words that I ain’t spoken
Tonight we’ll be free
All the promises’ll be broken

There were ghosts in the eyes
Of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
In the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets

They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on

But when you get to the porch, they’re gone
On the wind, so Mary climb in
It’s a town full of losers
I’m pulling out of here to win

From CNN…Bruce Springsteen shows up unannounced at a Jersey bar in Asbury Park..and played for two hours!! THE BOSS!!

Springsteen shows up unannounced and plays for 2 hours
He launched his career in Asbury Park
(CNN)When the boss shows up unannounced at the bar, it can ruin your evening.

But when that boss is the Boss, as in Bruce Springsteen, that’s another matter.

Springsteen crashed a Saturday night show in Asbury Park, New Jersey, surprising both patrons and the club owner. The Jersey boy jumped on stage around 10:30 p.m. and delighted the crowd with such classics as “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” “Because The Night,” and “The Promised Land,” Wonder Bar owner Debbie DeLisa said.

“It was thrilling,” said DeLisa. “It was a magical night.”

cropped-the-boss1.jpg

The set continued past midnight as Springsteen performed 15 songs with the scheduled act, Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers, playing backup.

Grushecky and Springsteen previously worked together, DeLisa said.

Word spread fast thanks to social media and the crowd inside and outside the Ocean Avenue club swelled.

“Even the whole street got completely packed with people,” said DeLisa. “It was insane.”

Springsteen, who grew up in nearby Freehold, launched his career decades ago in dives and music halls of Asbury Park, a blue-collar shore town representing the center of orbit for the hardscrabble Jersey ethos espoused in his music.

“He’s so Asbury Park,” said DeLisa. “He’s just a regular guy.”

He was known to play unannounced shows at the nearby Stone Pony throughout his career, but it had been years since he did anything like that, DeLisa said.

Nevertheless, when Springsteen is home in Jersey, “you never know,” said DeLisa. “We just cross our fingers and hope.”

Saturday Morning Random Thoughts…are they reading this in Kladno, Czech Republic?

@Chuck Duboff

– Rest in Peace Lenonard Nimoy…though I was never a huge Star Trek fan, it was a regular part of my childhood tv watching. You brought much wisdom to this world. In reading lots of what has been written these past few days, I came across a point which spoke to the man he was; Nimoy talked about growing up Jewish in Boston and the sting of anti-semitism which he felt…he used this as motivation to make this a better world. You succeeded in that Leonard.

Nimoy

– So Russia’s opposition leader was gunned down…and this surprises whom?

– The prohibition against publication of Hitler’s Mein Kampf has been lifted; how very exciting…now the youth of the world can once again fall in love with Hitler’s wisdom. At a time of rising anti-semitism throughout Europe, the historical society which is reissuing the book has said that it will be used as an academic tool. Right, and I will be performing brain surgery at 3:00 PM today.

mein-kampf

– A-Rod…what a circus act you are.

– How amazing is it that the Winnipeg Jets now have three players who all come from the same small town in the Czech Republic and who grew up as close friends: Ondrej Pavelec, Michael Frolic and the newest Jet, Juri Tlusty all were born and raised in Kladno, Czech Republic.

IMG_1341

– While on the subject of Pav, though his goaltending leaves much to be desired, his latest affirmation of the great fan he is of Bruce Springsteen, really is awesome. I’ve always known that Pav is a huge fan of the Boss, but this truly ROCKS!! Pav had the classic Born to Run cover painted on to his goalie’s mask:

IMG_1345

– To quote this morning’s Winnipeg Free Press: “Conservative Leader Brian Pallister tried his best to rain on the parade, harrumphing he does not share the same optimism about Manitoba.” I would imagine had the Conference Board come out and stated that our economy would lag behind the rest of Canada, Filmon’s former henchman would have been spouting off how terrible the provincial government is. Yet, when the Conference Board puts Manitoba right at the top of all its future forecasts, Pallister feels the need to shoot down the rosy picture which is being painted of our provincial economy. We can put this right beside your comments about “racism not being a part of your world.”

– So Netflix releases Season 3 of House of Cards yesterday…and I am almost finished it. If you are a lover of politics, unsavoury, cut throat, maniacal politics…then you must watch House of Cards. Kevin Spacey as Frank Underwood, and Robin Wright as Claire Underwood, are just brilliant. If you are a fan of Shakespeare and specifically MacBeth…you will see the parallels between the Underwoods and the MacBeths.

Frank Underwood

– The game the Jets played against St. Louis on Thursday evening, was in fact, the best game I have seen the Jets play since they returned to Winnipeg. Though they lost in a shootout, that was a very well-coached team which played smart, disciplined, physical hockey and got outstanding goaltending from Michael Hutchinson. If the Jets can continue playing at this level…and get Blake Wheeler and Matthieu Perrault back, they could make some noise in the playoffs.

– After being a Liberal bastion for as long as I can remember, I wonder if the citizens in St. Boniface sit back and wonder how it was that they elected Shelley Glover. She has become a cold, mean-spirited politician, and is not reflective of the people of St. Boniface.

o-SHELLY-GLOVER-ELECTIONS-CANADA-facebook

– Thursday night’s Jets game was Mental Health Awareness night…one of the features of this night was a moving video tribute to former Jet, Rick Rypien, who took his own life after a long struggle with depression. Here is the link to the video: http://video.jets.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=97&id=747985&lang=en

– A very special shout out to Lays Potato Chips for honouring my good friend Mickey Steen with the Lays Hometown Hero this past Tuesday evening; I know it was an evening that both Mickey and I will never forget. This past Wednesday I wrote a blog about the great evening we had: https://chuckduboff.com/2015/02/25/a-very-special-evening-for-a-very-special-friend-mickey-steen-by-chuck-duboff/

– On Wednesday I will be heading down to the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean for two weeks. During this time I will attempt to post blogs every second day; however, this will be dependent upon Wi-Fi accessibility. There is a Starbucks close by to the resort which I am staying at…there is free Wi-Fi there, so I may take my I-Pad over there in the evenings and post the blogs. I just ask for your patience and understanding during these couple of weeks.

– Was great getting an unexpected phone call from down in Cozumel the other evening; look forward to seeing my buddy Albert down there…perhaps a few cervecas together on Fifth Avenue in Playa.

– Thank you Teemu. The memories of your 76 goal season will never be forgotten!!

Terrorists kill. Muslims don’t.

– Man, some great stories were told yesterday with Geoff, Al and Mick; and we sure did solve the world’s problems guys!! I’ll bring back the tequila and cigars to help celebrate the Jets getting into the playoffs!!

– On a much smaller scale, but very similar in nature…what happened this past week in Paris reminded me of when I received the letter filled with death threats: “Hitler knew what he was doing, kill all the jew pigs, we’re going to kill you.” I received this because I dared to promote human rights for all..while the idiots who write letters like that, hide in their basements, much like the KKK hiding under their cloaks. I was proud of my words and actions…yet these cowards never had the courage to stand up for what they believed in. Those cartoonists were brave and stood for all the values of democracy.

churchill

– As the Jets injured start to come back, we are hanging onto a playoff spot by the slimmest of threads; at our coffee yesterday there was pretty much a consensus that two things must happen for the playoffs to become a reality: Chevy must upgrade the 3rd and 4th lines…they are killing us; and Pav must either be traded or relegated to the bench. We all were in agreement that the Jets should run with Hutch and call up Conner Hellebucyk from St. Johns.

– 36 days until pitchers and catchers report to spring training!!

– December 17, 2011…the night Teemu came back to Winnipeg…I will never, ever forget that night!! I think Teemu was overwhelmed by the love displayed by his Winnipeg fans. What a night. Thank you Teemu.

– Are we in the midst of a Holy War?

– As a very proud dad…and with a slightly biased opinion, check out my son Matt Duboff for some amazing photography…mattduboff.com…his website displays some brilliant shots. If you need some great photography done, either connect with Matt through his website or send me a note. I know you won’t be disappointed. Matt took this great shot of Big Ben and his friend in the Bruins jersey at practice:

IMG_0328

– Steen taxi service: the best!!!! LMAO

– Big Ben: “Zaida, if the Yankees were playing the Goldeyes, who would you cheer for?” Gotta love the innocence of youth.

– Freedom of Speech: we are blessed to live in a country where I can openly express that I do not trust Brian Pallister for one second, while at the same time saying that the NDP must get their act together…it’s like a three ring circus.

– I fear something horrific is being planned by the terrorists to occur in the US…on a 9/11 scale.

– All Winnipeg Jets 1.0 fans recognize this great picture:

Teemu Selanne Scores His 54th Rookie Goal

– To my friend Di, who lives and breathes Bruce Springsteen (springsteen2wpg.com)…here’s hoping the rumours are true!!

– This will probably be the last Saturday Morning Random Thoughts for a few weeks; however, if it is a rainy or cloudy Saturday morning, I’ll try and get to the Wi-Fi and share my goings on in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

BRUCE: WINNIPEG IS ROCK!!!!

Bruce:

All your fans here in Winnipeg appreciate you taking the time to read this note; you have a large and incredible group of loyal fans in the ‘peg!!

You have yet to honour us with a show and we want to take a few minutes of your time to convince you, the E-Street Band, and your management team, to come and rock our great city!!

Winnipeg is Rock!! Neil Young, Burton Cummings, Randy Bachman, The Guess Who, BTO and so many other great rockers grew up right here in the ‘peg! Shows: we get them all…last summer Sir Paul played here at our brand new stadium; everyone from Elton John, to the Eagles, Neil Young, Pearl Jam, the Rolling Stones twice, Dylan, Bruno Mars, Katie Perry, and Selena Gomez have played our city.

Image

Bruce: we are a working class city, like your people in Jersey!! Your songs, your words, speak to a man and his band who get it!! We are a caring city and are known to be helpful to those who haven’t had many breaks in life. You will feel Jersey right here with the people of Winnipeg…

We’ve seen the videos of you and Sir Paul rockin’ together; you and Eddie Veddor doing some AC/DC down in Australia…how about you get our Winnipeg son, Neil Young, up on stage with you and give us some Down by the River and Rockin’ in the Free World.

SOME WINNIPEG FANS SEND YOU THEIR MESSAGE:

Rick: Paul McCartney liked our city so much, he played here twice!!

Diane: Bruce: when I saw you in Ireland, I loved that I had seen some your best work, but I was a bit pissed at you for playing such terrific small cities, but never my terrific city! Crazy woman that I am, I set out to try and change that. Before long, I was meeting wonderful Bruce Fans who had never seen you live and just couldn’t travel to do that. They told me how you cheer them up, motivate them, make them sing and dance. I’m not pissed at you anymore, but Bruce, please keep going to places you’ve never played before, so fans can see you and PLEASE make Winnipeg one of those cities.

Kyle: Bruce, you are a rock God in my eyes!! You won’t regret coming here, because people of all ages want to see you; ask Paul McCartney how much he loved our city!! Winnipeg…summer night, great rock music, nothing better than Bruce Springsteen right here in the ‘peg!!

Chuck: Bruce: you will feel Jersey in the people of Winnipeg; hard working and “They take care of their own”!! We are Counting on a Miracle for you to come here…we’re Waitin on a Sunny Day for you to rock our great city…and then for sure, we will have some Glory Days!!

Tommy: I’d be so star struck, I’d probably just mumble!!

There’s not much else we can say Bruce; you have got thousands and thousands of fans here in the ‘peg who love your music, whom you inspire, whom you get through tough days…Winnipegers are hard workers, just like your Jersey family!!

Saturday Morning Random Thoughts…December 27th.

– Geoff and I continue to be in awe of the number of reads of our Blog. Since this past January 29th we have had 20,244 reads of Chuck and Geoff’s Eclectic Blog. We have 503 regular followers, readers from around the world who receive e-mail notification of the daily blog. Except for a small pocket of countries in Africa, we have had reads in pretty much every country around the world. Geoff and I are wordsmiths, but continue to use the word surreal to describe the interest shown in our Blog. All we can really say is: Thank You.

– During the week of December 29th until January 5th, we will be doing a Best of 2014…reblogging some of our favourite…and most popular…Blogs of the year. We hope you enjoy them

– I think the World Junior Hockey Championships should be subtitled the Winnipeg Jets Future Prospects coming out party…Nic Ehlers, Nick Petan, Josh Morrisey, Chase de Leo, Eric Comrie. Watching the games yesterday, it seemed like every second sentence started with “Winnipeg Jets Draft Pick”. The Jets place great emphasis on their scouting department; during the lockout they were one of only four teams to keep their scouting staff working…and it pays off. The Edmonton Oilers do not have one draft pick past the first round, going back to 2008, playing on the their roster. Maybe that explains their problems. For those wondering, Adam Lowrey was a 3rd round pick for the Jets!! With patience, the Jets are going to be some kind of hockey team in just a few short years. Imagine an injection of Nic Ehlers, Josh Morrisey and Nick Petan next season!! (Nic Ehlers pictured below)

Ehlers

– Josh Morrisey, Eric Comrie and Nick Petan…Jets draft picks!!

Petan, comrie and Morrisey

– December 29th and this has been a pretty easy winter, thus far.

– Wondering how long the line is going to be this morning to wash the car!!

– Not that I’m counting, but 17 would be the number of days until I’m on the magnificent beaches of Playa del Carmen. Hot sun, two pools, lots of bikinis, the Caribbean, five restaurants, swim up bars in the pool…and Fifth Avenue. One of my favourite things is after breakfast doing a one hour jog on the amazing sun drenched beaches…Was great last year finding a sports bar on 5th Avenue owned by Canadians…with jerseys from all four professional sports leagues everywhere…BUT, right at the front of the bar…Winnipeg Jets and Quebec Nordiques jerseys!! Sweeeeeet!!

Playa pic

– Would anybody be surprised if it came out that SONY was behind all controversy surrounding The Interview; from what I’ve heard, another crappy Seth Rogan movie…it would not shock me in the least. Conspiracy Theorists…do your thing!!

– Love my son Matthew’s line “Well, for the 35th straight year, Santa missed stopping at my place.” That was hilarious!! Well done Matt.

– That 5-1 Jets win over Chicago this week may have been the most exhilarating Jets 2.0 win. The shear dominance in the first period…and taking a giant 4-0 lead in the second period in such convincing fashion…with our top four defence men out…That has got to instil incredible confidence in the team; I know it has in the fans. Going into the New Year with a strong grip on a playoff position is pretty daymn exciting. A two game sweep of Minnesota these next two games would be amazing…yet, a split of the two games would also go a long way towards nailing down a playoff spot!! And yes, I’m going to the next four Jets home games starting Monday…should be a fun eight days!

940-little-bryan

– Dustin Byfuglien and Bryan Little have been playing great hockey; I dare say, Buff is playing All-Star calibre hockey.

– Michael Hutchinson…is it his time? Do we roll with him or continue to alternate each game. He is playing sensational hockey and the Jets, as a team, seem to play a much more controlled, disciplined game in front of him!

Thumb_Hutch

– The Russian Bear is awakening…pay attention world. Vladimir Putin is rattling sabres…

– Are we in for another Clinton – Bush run for the presidency? Looking like Jeb Bush is going to run against Hillary in 2016…wonder how he will manage without Daddy there to pull the strings of the Republican money machine?

– Now that the 24/7 holiday music is done, it’s time for Latin music to get me in the Caribbean mood, along with my man, Bruce Springsteen.

– Geoff and I will be ordering a set of these mugs; if anybody would like to purchase one, please let us know before Monday, as I will be placing the order then. You can message us right here and we can make arrangements. The cost is $10 per mug.

cropped-blog-mug.jpeg

– Finally, as this year ends, I need to say one final good bye to my friend Lisa and share how very much I miss you. Your sister Shawna has shared with me that she believes you are at peace and I trust her words. I sure hope that the ice-cream is great up there Lisa. FYI Lees…one of the freakin treadmills is broken…I know that would not make you happy…and yes, I miss you every morning in the gym!!

Fortunate Son Lyrics

Some folks are born, made to wave the flag
Ooo, they’re red, white and blue
And when the band plays “Hail to the Chief”
Ooo, they point the cannon at you, Lord

It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no senator’s son, son
It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no fortunate one, no

Bruce+Springsteen+John+Fogerty+25th+Anniversary+PWkj6Y3MwA9l

Some folks are born, silver spoon in hand
Lord, don’t they help themselves, y’all
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yeah

It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no millionaire’s son, no, no
It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no fortunate one, no

Yeah, yeah
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask ’em, “How much should we give?”
Ooh, they only answer “More! More! More!”, y’all

It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no military son, son
It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no fortunate one, one
It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no fortunate one, no, no, no
It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no fortunate son, no, no, no

– The media will always find a way to be negative, to try and create controversy; the Winnipeg Jets right now have one of the top records in the NHL; yet, reporters covering the Jets only focus on the low scoring games and the number of goals the Jets are scoring. Hello reporters; I’m a season ticket holder…I could care less how many goals they score!! Are we winning and moving up the standings? Emphatically yes!!! That’s the story…and the buy in by the team on Coach Maurice’s system.

– Rinelle Harper and Tina Fontaine. What is happening to Aboriginal teen girls and women sickens me. I can only imagine how our city would be reacting if these same horrific beatings and murders were happening to white teen girls and women. Too much of our society sees Aboriginal people as “less than” and “deserving” of these brutal acts. Both Rinelle and Tina are human beings and deserve to be treated with the same respect that everyone expects.

Tina Fontaine

– Rinelle Harper’s parents have publicly forgiven the monsters who perpetuated the horrible beating on their daughter. How many of us could do the same?

– Clayton Kershaw is a great pitcher and probably deserving of the Cy Young Award; however, in my opinion, there is no way a starting pitcher should win the MVP.

– Not that I’m counting the days…but only 59 days until two weeks in paradise; back to the Coco Reef Resort in Playa del Carmen…great beaches, hot sun, 5th avenue, beautiful Caribbean…and my replenishment of all my beads and bracelets.

– So very blessed and proud of Carly and Matt and Chris and Laine and Ben…every day they bring smiles and happiness.

– Anybody else notice the Bombers haven’t been playing for awhile now and the playoffs are just now starting? 24 years and counting…I’m a life long fan and can feel apathy setting in.

– If you didn’t have the time yesterday to read Geoff’s review of the Fleetwood Mac concert, check it out: https://chuckduboff.com/2014/11/14/fleetwood-mac-rocks-the-peg-concert-review-by-geoff-brookes/

– To my friend Diane, the organize of springsteen2wpg, keep holding onto that dream; the Boss will rock at IGF one day real soon!!

– So Brian Pallister says he will cut the PST 1% and cut personal income taxes, and will not cut any civil servants job; I can hear all the cheering out there…but it will be the same people who want these tax cuts who will complain about services and the poor infrastructure. You can’t have it both ways!! I’m disappointed in the manner in which the NDP rolled out the PST increase, but not the need for it. We want better infrastructure, health care, education, police services…somebody has to pay for it folks!!

– Let’s Go Jets!!!! Keep it rolling.

We say our final good bye this evening to Lisa…this song is for you my friend: Tears in Heaven, by Eric Clapton

The Video of Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton

“Tears In Heaven”…Eric Clapton

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?

I must be strong
And carry on,
‘Cause I know I don’t belong
Here in heaven.

Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven?

I’ll find my way
Through night and day,
‘Cause I know I just can’t stay
Here in heaven.

Time can bring you down,
Time can bend your knees.
Time can break your heart,
Have you begging please, begging please.

Beyond the door,
There’s peace I’m sure,
And I know there’ll be no more
Tears in heaven.

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?

I must be strong
And carry on,
‘Cause I know I don’t belong
Here in heaven.

Saturday Morning Random Thoughts…September 13.

– What a wonderful dinner with family and friends at Little Maria’s last evening; just trying to surround myself with happy, healthy people. Special shout out to my good friend Joe who put on just a fabulous spread of food, “family style”.

– Well, that was some kind of week for the NFL…the main lesson…if you smoke a joint, you get a one year suspension; but, if you beat your wife unconscious, just two games.
– Thoughts go out to a student of mine, Cass, whom I have been tutoring for three years; her husband just found out he has cancer and will be starting chemo immediately…thinking of both of you.
– So, Brian Pallister fires a 21 year old staffer who wrote a blog saying there should be an inquiry into the missing women and deaths of Aboriginal women. Yup, that’s the kind of person we want leading our province!!
– It’s been almost eight days now of complete peace, happiness, joy, smiling and living every moment;
– Alas…I am sleeping 10-11 hours every night now…as my body recovers…waking up refreshed, happy and not having a vice like headache.
– Been in a Bob Dylan kind of mood all week…the Bard!!

– We hit 14,000 views of our Blog this morning…along with 466 followers who receive our Blog everyday!! Thank you to everyone…you inspire Geoff and I.
– I am so freakin’ glad I booked two weeks in Playa del Carmen, Mexico for late January…I just love that place; and when I go there this year I won’t be in the midst of the nightmare I was experiencing last winter.
– It’s amazing how when you get your mojo back…life is so much fun. It was like it was in hiding for four years.
– So, I pick up the kids the other day after school and Ben says: come on Zaida Chuck, I want to show you my room…up on his walls are old Jets jerseys and Yankee shirts and Ben says: “look, it’s just like your bedroom Zaida”…well, this guy had tears!
– 24/7 Thank you.
– Pretty hard processing that Derek Jeter’s career will be done in just a couple of weeks. With all the negativity and terrible stories surrounding professional athletes these days, Derek Jeter will always stand for what is good in sports. What a fabulous, fabulous career…#2,the Captain, Derek Jeter!! He always dreamed as a little boy of playing shortstop for the New York Yankees…and he got to live his dream in the classiest of ways. Thank you Derek, not only for five world championships, but for the classy manner in which you carried yourself and represented the Yankees. So cool when Ben asked me why I paid so much money for the Derek Jeter autographed picture…was able to give him a Jeter, Yankees history lesson.

– Thanks Al…your words of inspiration have helped so very much.
– Geoff and I were saying the other day…how very fortunate we are to have Jets season tix…four years ago we were beside our selves…and it may be a different kind of excitement today…but, truth be told for both of us, whether we make the playoffs or finish last…we have a freakin team again and get to go and watch NHL hockey all winter…gotta be grateful for the that.
great pic of Geoff, Derek and I
On a personal note…it’s going to be nice to go and just enjoy the games…I know enduring the nightmare for this past year, I can honestly say I don’t think I enjoyed a minute of Jets, Bombers or Goldeyes…it’s like somebody wiped the Goldeyes season off the map and…I don’t think I made it through one whole game this season…and now…I enjoyed going to the Bombers game last Sunday and can’t wait for the start of the Jets season…wherein I get to go with great friends and take my all my kids to games this winter!!

– Summer disappeared far too quickly and frost warnings in early September are just not right.
– When asked his musical influences when growing up, Bruce Springsteen stated: The Beatles, Stones and Dylan!! YUP!!

– This next picture is very special; on one of my 12 trips to Cuba, I got to see the room that Ernest Hemmingway lived in and wrote Old Man and the Sea…that’s the original copy of the novel in the glass casing. The last pic is Ernest Hemmingway’s Bar…where he spent most of his time when he wasn’t writing; what a thrill to see that!

Saturday Morning Random Thoughts… August 2nd.

– thank you to all my friends, and especially to many of the 425 followers of this blog, who took the time to private message and reach out these past few weeks. Your concern and support is a blessing.
– our annual Jets Ticket Draft party on the rooftop of Tavern United…what a blast!!
Draft 5
– being able to take all my kids to Jets games this season…priceless!!
– the excitement in Ben’s voice telling me about getting to see Jonothan Toews this season; and Laine so excited to see the Leafs on a Saturday night, the day before her birthday!! couldn’t be luckier!!
– loving this fabulous weather and hoping we’re in for a great month of August; I should just pitch a tent by the pool…so busy there this past week!! Geoff: it was a joy watching Courtney swimming in the pool! Innocence.
– an Ebola outbreak in Africa…how scary is that!!
– how sweet does this sound: after six weeks, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are in first place over all in the CFL!!
– had such high hopes for Barack Obama…yet he seemingly sits idly by as Putin does his best Stalin imitation, the Mideast is a mess and the border issues with Mexicans only get worse!!…thank goodness for the Republicans and Tea Party wing nuts who act as if we’re still living in the 1800’s.
– two weeks in Veradero, Cuba this winter…my 13th time visiting Cuba…love the people there.
– as I said to Geoff yesterday; Blue Jays fans sound as frustrated as Jets fans with the team’s inability to make an tangible improvement.
– the psychological damage of myself and a friend being stalked is indescribable; I wouldn’t wish it on anybody.
– Matthew, Carly, Chris, Laine and Ben…thank you.
– Geoff…24/7.
– thanks Neil.
– I wish some people would take the time to try and understand what I have been put through, rather than making unsubstantiated assumptions.
– there is a tangible buzz in the air, excitement around the Bombers 5-1 start. I will repeat: the players have taken on the personality of their coach, Mike O’Shea!!!
– it should be electric at IGF next Thursday evening; 34,000 very loud Bomber fans vs. Sask.
– had a very special reconnection on Facebook with a guy whom I coached at Maples; I hadn’t realized that he had made it to an NFL training camp as a place kicker…played in one exhibition game and met Joe Montana…was a super great guy on the team…nice catching up with him..and very humbling the words he had to say about my affect on his football career. Sometimes you don’t know till years later.
– being stalked has such a damaging affect; whenever any body knocks on my condo door, I freeze…”watch your back, I know where you live”…those words haunt me!!
– as I wrote in the blog yesterday, it’s obviously too early to put Drew Willy in the list of great Bomber QB’s…but finally, after a long, long time…it looks like we have a major league QB…calm, poised, confident, quiet leadership and football smart; the way he evaded being sacked with 30 seconds left, reminded me of Eli Manning in the Super Bowl…
cropped-willy-winniing.jpg

– I must reiterate: to my friends everywhere…here in Winnipeg, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Mexico and Spain, to my family, to many of the followers of this Blog whom I don’t even know…thank you, thank you, thank you for taking the time to express your concern, for taking the time to talk, often for very long periods of time, for taking the time to come over…you’ll never realize how much your words and actions helped. Though it’s hard trusting anybody right now, your support and encouragement meant the world to me…and has helped me to take small steps moving forward.
– to Bruce Springsteen…who also endures similar mental health conditions as I do…thank you for the song Waiting on a Sunny Day…watching the video and listening to you sing that uplifting song, really does help. Shout out to Diane and friends with http://www.springsteen2wpg.ca We will make this happen!!
The Boss rockin' The River last night in Atlanta.

– going to try and go to some Goldeyes games next week when they return; hopefully will be able to find some joy in the games, rather than sitting there frozen and on edge; if you’re a friend reading this who would like to join me at a game, get in touch and I will get you a ticket; or if you go to the games…stop by and say hi…your friendships are a blessing.
