The Big Reveal: JFK Who Am I? Person 1, Part 6 by Don Lofendale

© Don Lofendale

Before the big reveal, I will summarize the information provided.

My father:

– was said to be involved in “the Business Plot”, a fascist attempt to overthrow President Roosevelt in 1933
– was a director and at least small shareholder with his Skull and Bones classmate, business partner and Democratic Party power, Averill Harriman, in the Union Bank, which was seized by the Justice Department and FBI, as a Nazi front in the 1940’s.
– led a group of businessmen in finding a Republican candidate to defeat Jerry Voorhis, a charismatic Congressman, by advertising for a candidate and promising him financial support, which candidate ultimately was Richard Nixon, beginning a long political alliance between my family and Nixon
-was a Republican U.S. Senator.

On the other hand, I

– come from inherited wealth and also made a fortune in oil and finance
– was a member of the super secret society, the Skull and Bones Club,
– was likely a CIA agent before Operation Zapata, the Bay of Pigs invasion by CIA backed anti Castro Cuban exiles, in spring 1961, whose failure exiles and CIA agents involved, blamed on Kennedy
– claim to not remember where I was when JFK was killed, although I was in Dallas for at least part of that day and in fact phoned the FBI, with a tip on who the assassin might be
– was briefed on the investigation the day after the assassination by FBI Director Hoover, which meeting I first denied, then claimed to not remember
– was a two term Republican congressman in the 1960’s and ran twice for the senate
– was appointed to several powerful positions by or with thru help of President’s Nixon and Ford, including Ambassador to the U.N., Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Special Envoy to China and CIA Director
-was a good friend of Lee Harvey Oswald’s “best friend” George DeMorenschildt, who wrote me a rather desperate letter while I was CIA Director, saying he has been indiscreet about Oswald and that he felt a net closing in on him.
-was said to be involved in the arms for hostages deal that Reagan’s campaign allegedly arranged to ensure Reagan’s election
-took the lead in the Regan administration on deregulation and the so called war on drugs.
-ran for the Republican nomination three times

Political Scandals

I previously mentioned the Watergate scandal that forced Richard Nixon’s resignation from the presidency in August of 1974. The next relevant scandal started in 1980 and continued for a number of years, although it only came to light later. At first it was known as “Iran-gate” as post Watergate adding “gate” to an issue indicated it was a scandal. This scandal was also known as the “arms for hostages” scandal, as the Reagan administration sold arms to the regime in Iran in exchange for American hostages they’d taken. That regime had overthrown the Shah of Iran in early 1979; then students proceeded to storm the American Embassy and take hostages in November 1979. Accordingly, the deal was that the Reagan administration— secretly and illegally— sell arms to the regime in Iran and in return they would release the hostages.

The other controversial international event at the time was the Reagan administration’s attempts to bring down Daniel Ortega’s leftist regime in Nicaragua, by supporting the Nicaraguan government’s armed enemy the Contras.. Regan’s support for the Contras grew into illegality as well. The scandal came to be known as “Iran-Contra” when it came out that some of the profits from the illegal sale of arms to Iran was used to buy arms to illegally provide the Contras. No, really.

Now, back to me more directly.

Early Political Career

I ran for Congress twice for the Republicans in the 1960’s and won. I also ran for the Senate for them twice. Once in the ’60’s and once in the ’70’s. But I failed to be elected either time. This was problematic for a highly ambitious guy like me and for my upper class backers. The writer would tell you I likely felt I had earned receiving some great reward for my role in killing Kennedy, while my upper class backers and CIA friends wanted someone like me, who would literally do anything, in as powerful a position as possible.

After my second Senate loss in 1970, I was appointed to a series of powerful positions, as I mentioned in Part 4. After that series of appointments was completed, things really got interesting.

Reagan Administration

I was a major player in the Reagan administration and on his election team. As an aside I’ll mention that two of my major assignments under Reagan’s presidency were deregulation and the war on drugs.

Deregulation refers primarily to the airline and trucking industries. Prior to Reagan, businesses in these regulated industries would have to make a case before a transportation board to demonstrate why another trucking company route or airline route was needed between two cities. The board might also set airfare or shipping rates.

The writer thinks it is worth mentioning that while regulation tended to carry somewhat higher prices than deregulation, regulation had a number of virtues. First, regulated industries tended to have a unionized workforce who were paid good wages. Second, with fares and shipping rates set at profitable levels, trucking rigs and airplanes tended to be relatively well maintained. Deregulation contributed to the absurd, almost obscene, slide in wages for most people, but particularly for unskilled and semi-skilled labour and the piling on of wealth for what is now known as “the 1%” . Actually, billionaire investor Warren Buffet says it is the top 1/5th of the 1% who make out like bandits. Other financial authors have said it is the top 1% of the 1%. That is, the super well off are either the top .0020 of the population or the top .0001. Second, when the industries were regulated, it was more difficult for larger businesses to price smaller ones out of the industry, then increase their prices. Deregulation was supposed to increase competition; instead a case can be made that mergers and other business “consolidations”, decreased competition. Accordingly, to the extent deregulation worked at all, it likely has been at the expense of public safety and employee pay. And I played a major role in bringing that about.

My lead in the Regan Administration’s war on drugs is a giggle. It is now almost mainstream to note that the CIA funded some of its “black” (secret, illegal) operations by working with drug lords and running drugs. There have long been rumours—- never proven—-that I wet my beak substantially in this illegal trade as well. At minimum, with this position in the Reagan administration, I would protect my CIA associates in their drug running, rather than actually try to end drug trafficking.

Perhaps the most astonishing event of the Reagan administration occurred in its first half hour: Iran releases the American hostages it has held for more than a year. Why on earth world would the Iranian regime want to help a militarist like Reagan? It made no sense. There was more to the story.

Pre-Election 1980 – the October Surprise

In November 1979 the Iranian regime, operating through radical students, takes 52 American hostages. At first the American people rally around President Jimmy Carter, but as time drags on, the people become impatient. Carter attempts one military rescue of the hostages, but it never got off the ground. The Carter people believe he can still win the election, but will require an “October Surprise”—-a dramatic event in the month before the November presidential election—- the release of the hostages.

The Reagan election team, particularly campaign chairman Bill Casey, fear the October Surprise is coming and will assure Carter’s re-election. Casey is an old school cold warrior, with ties to the intelligence community. He is phobic about Reagan losing the election based on a Carter October Surprise. He is even more phobic about oil rich and strategically located Iran being drawn into the Soviet Union’s sphere of influence. After Reagan’s election, Casey is appointed CIA Director.

Years later it comes out that Casey approached two Iranian businessmen operating in the US and asks they arrange a meeting with representatives from Iran. A series of meetings are arranged in Paris. And you guessed it—-I am reputedly present at the final meeting in Paris, the one at which it is agreed that the Iranians won’t agree with Carter to release the hostages before the Reagan is sworn is as president.

Sure, I know what you’re thinking—- that if what I did failed to amount to an act of “treason”, it must come close. But the way I look at it is what’s one more such act?

This one was problematic however. As a prominent person in the Reagan campaign my whereabouts are public most days. So if I were involved in this, I’m unlikely to have a public alibi. Also I can’t use my standard lie of “I don’t remember” when the question is “did you fly to Paris to make an arms for hostages deal with Iran?” But don’t worry. When Congress investigated I gave them a name as an alibi, but then said the person couldn’t be contacted. By the time his name became public, he had passed away.

A few people with knowledge have come forward over the years to confirm the truth of the arms for hostage story. It is consistent with the experience of the Carter Democrats who found their (legal) negotiations with Iran inexplicably cut off in October 1980.

Ollie North

A few people, including Oliver North, were initially convicted in relation to Iran-Contra. They say that I was in the room with North when some of the illegal decisions were made, but if I can be completely honest with you, I’d have to say I really don’t remember.

Newsman Sam Donaldson, on the political talk show “This Week with David Brinkley”, famously observed that every time illegal arms sales were discussed “(insert my name”) turned into a potted plant”.

Here is the final clue before I reveal my identity next week: I ran for the Republican nomination for president three times.

Last time I told you about the shady things my dad did, but now it’s back to me.

Appointed Positions

I was given many powerful appointed positions, beginning with appointments by Richard Nixon, while he was president, no doubt because of the political alliance my father forged with Nixon.

Nixon appointed me US ambassador to the United Nations in 1970. In 1973 he helped me become appointed as Chairman of the Republican National Committee.

After Nixon was forced to resign the presidency because of the Watergate scandal, his replacement Gerald Ford appointed me as special envoy to China. This was equivalent to being ambassador, but the US didn't have full and formal diplomatic relations with China at that time.

CIA Director

Early in 1976 Ford appointed me to be the Director of the CIA. The writer recalls that the news reports at the time expressed surprise that' someone with no experience in the intelligence community was appointed CIA Director and that there was then some comment that I had lots of CIA experience. When there was a “say what” reaction to that comment, it was quickly dropped.

Amazingly, there was an Oswald moment on the record while I was CIA Director. It requires some background information.

LHO and George DeMorenschildt

LHO was thought to be a communist, reasonably enough on the surface, because he defected to the Soviet Union in October 1959. The writer would tell you there is now reason to believe Oswald was a false defector, in part because the US and Russia both were running false defector programs at the time. False defectors were usually sent to gather information.

When Oswald returned from the Soviet Union with his Russian wife in the spring of 1962, the White Russian community in Dallas, particularly then 51 year old oil geologist George DeMorenschildt, befriended them. Communist Russians were referred to as Reds, while their anti communist opponents were referred to as the White Russians. Some White Russians were loyal to the Czar and were bitter when the communists won the Russian Civil War. Some of those White Russians lost privileged positions and wealth when the Czar was overthrown, among them de Mo’s family. Accordingly, a young American going communist would be repulsive to someone like de M. DeMorenschildt who was passionately anti-communist based on the loss his family had suffered as a direct result of communism ands who was well off and cultured, while Oswald was poor. Yet, DeMorenschildt was described as “Oswald’s best friend”. There clearly is more to this story.

Part of the “more” is that DeMorenschildt, as an oil geologist traveling around the world, had CIA connections. He appears to be a CIA asset, who regularly was debriefed by the CIA. He arranged to be introduced to Oswald at the request of J Walton Moore, the head of a Dallas office of the Agency. Accordingly DeMorenschildt was likely, in intelligence community parlance, a “babysitter”—– someone who keeps an eye on someone for whom the Agency has future plans.

Therefore,, spending time with Oswald was likely part of a job DeMorenschildt was doing for the CIA. In addition DeMorenschildt probably genuinely liked Oswald because Oswald, although poor was well read and something of an intellectual and because DeMorenchildt likely knew what many now suspect—– Oswald was a brave young man who was part of the “false defector” program. Accordingly DeMorenschildt would have admired Oswald’s courage and anti-communist commitment.

DeMorenschildt left for Haiti in spring 1963. When he testified before the Warren Commission in 1964, he threw Oswald under the bus and provided some damning information or opinions. However, that wasn’t his final opinion: he wrote the manuscript for a planned book he entitled “I’m a Patsy”—— the phrase Oswald famously shouted out when the police brought him before the press, who advised him he had been charged with the murder of the President.

The writer also saw an old video of DeMonenschildt on YouTube—– it would have to be old because he died in 1977—-where Demorenschildt, clearly being interviewed by someone, says something like “Oswald is a lunatic who kills Kennedy; Jack Ruby is a lunatic who kills Oswald (supposedly to save Jackie Kennedy the trauma of testifying at a trial for Oswald) and Garrison (New Orleans District Attorney who brought a charge of conspiracy to murder Kennedy against New Orleans businessman and CIA asset Clay Shaw) is a lunatic. It’s rather insulting to the US that it has so many lunatics”. He seemed to be telling us not to believe those characterizations.

The writer suspects that as time went by DeMorenschildt felt badly that a young man who risked his life to be part of the false defector program gets falsely blamed for the murder of the President. He knew that Oswald couldn’t have been a homicidal communist because he knew Oswald wasn’t a communist at all.

However, there is much more to the DeMorenschildt story. That’s where I come in.

DeMorenschildt and Me

Did I ever tell you what good friends DeMorenschildt and I were?

It only makes sense. We were CIA guys and both in the oil business on a national and international basis. I was dorm mates with his nephew in school. Remember, I’m the guy who was revealed in Part 1, to have phoned the FBI within hours of the assassination with a tip on who the assassination might be. Now I’m telling you Oswald’s best friend was also a good friend of mine. It gets better.

During my time as CIA Director in 1976, DeMorenschildt writes me a handwritten letter saying that he feels the net closing in on him—–because, he states, he probably has been too vocal about Oswald—- which the writer thinks can only mean too vocal about Oswald’s innocence. I write him back and tell him I’ve had my staff ask around and can’t find anything going on against him. The writer would say this might well be insider speak for a “kiss off”—- telling someone you can’t or won’t help them, in this case can’t or won’t help to save their life.

Recall that 1976 is the year after the US House of Representatives Pike Committee and the Senate’s Church Committee hearings into the misbehaviour o’s US intelligence agencies. Both committees were named for their chairmen. This is also the year after the now famous Zapruder film, showing the President’s head snap back and to the left when hit (consistent with a shot from the right front), was shown on US national television for the first time. Things were heat g up on the Kennedy case.

Who Am I?

PS the DeMorenschildt story ends badly. He dies in 1977 of a shotgun blast to his head, officially ruled a suicide, but under suspicions circumstances. This was the first year of the US House of representatives hearings into the JFK assassination. The hearings that eventually concluded that Kennedy was “probably” murdered as the result of a “conspiracy”.

JFK, Who am I? Person One, PART 3, by Don Lofendale

My father inherited wealth, but also made a fortune in banking. In addition he was a prominent United States Republican Senator, famous or infamous for three reasons, amongst other things. At least two of the events are more or less mainstream history, but not publicized much.

The third event occurred around 1945-46. There was a California congressman, a five tern Democrat named Jerry Voorhis, who people of my father’s ilk feared. For Canadian readers Voorhis was an American Tommy Douglas. For any American readers, Tommy Douglas was a four term Premier of the Province of Saskatchewan beginning in 1944, who brought in Canada’s first single payor health care plan, which became the model for the Canadian system, in around 1965. Douglas had been a pastor, who got into politics, because he believed in the social gospel, the belief that the duty of a devout person is to endeavour to create heaven on earth, with particular concern for the sick, the poor, the elderly and the working class. Rooting this political philosophy in religion, gave it moral authority. Although Douglas believed in social programs, he was a fierce opponent of chronic deficits. He believed that deficits put “Eastern bankers” in charge of government social policy. He was no wimpy nice guy. He was a boxer in his younger years.

Voorhis was very much the same. He believed in the social gospel. As such his concern for those who have less, was based on moral authority also. In addition he was a critic of the U.S. monetary system, particularly, the Federal Reserve. This man was identifying all the problems and had good solutions. Voorhis was charismatic; a potential leader. Of course, many of the things that cause problems for the larger society, including poverty, income inequality and outsourcing good jobs, is what makes people like my father and me rich— not to mention my “clients”, that is, people even higher in the upper class.

So he had to go.

But killing prominent people isn’t our first choice solution. Instead——– we took out an ad.

My dad got together with a bunch of other wealthy businessmen and politicians to find a candidate who could defeat Voorhis. My dad, as a prominent politician, was deeply involved with the search. The group literally put an ad in the newspaper seeking a talented young Republican, for whom my dad and his wealthy business allies would finance a campaign against Voorhis.

I don’t know how many people applied for the position (of having my dad’s and his rich friend’s support to be the Republican nominee against Voorhis), but we know who won it——- Richard Nixon, then a lawyer in his mid-30’s, There is a photo from the time, with my dad kind of tapping a broad brimmed hat that Nixon was wearing, in the fashion if the times. It was similar to the hat my dad was wearing. My father’s gesture seemed to suggest that Nixon was a junior version of my dad. It was simultaneously a touch condescending and a touch affectionate or at least “approving”. Nixon in turn looks equal measures embarrassed, awed and pleased.

Nixon won, largely by smearing Voorhis as a fellow traveller of communists and with vast resources backing him.

Union Bank

Another grand adventure my dad had, began at Yale where, like I would be, he was tapped for membership in the exclusive secret society, the Skull and Bones Club. A fellow Bonesman, as members are called, was Averill Harriman scion of the famous and wealthy railway family. Harriman and my dad formed a longstanding partnership. Harriman was a Democrat and had enormous power and influence in that party. Accordingly, my dad and Harriman had their bases covered politically, which is the way we upper class types like it. You can’t lose when you’re on both teams, can you.

skull and bones

My dad and Harriman went into finance and banking together. One such venture is the point of this story: the Union Bank. Harriman and my dad were directors in that bank and might have had a small share holding in it as well. The problem though is that this was around World War Il and the largest shareholders were German industrialists who supported Hitler’s Nazi party. The Justice Department, driven by Hoover’s FBI, confiscated the Bank’s assets under the authority of the Trading with the Enemy Act, in Oct of 1942. My father the secret fascist.

It all worked out fine. The assets were quietly returned after the war ended.

The Business Plot

The first big adventure involving my father and anti-democratic beliefs came in 1933, shortly after Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected President. To get the economy out of the great depression FDR was trying social spending, such as Social Security, as well as capital spending on rural electrification and roads. He had a three pronged plan for Relief, Recovery and Reform. Some wealthy businessmen thought this smacked of —you guessed it —communism. And so the businessmen got together —-and rumours are that my father was one of them—— to stage a coup. An actual fascist military coup!

The plotters made a terrible error though. One of the greatest living World War I heroes was Marine Major General Smedley Butler. They knew he had the respect of rank and file soldiers and the plotters believed the soldiers might follow Butler as the military face of the coup. The plotters had a representative approach Butler and intimate their intentions. to him. They failed to take the measure of the man. He blew the whistle on them. Butler wrote a book called “War is a Racket” in which he suggests that most wars are unnecessary, artificially induced for illegitimate purposes, particularly to provide large profits to wealthy investors and frequently had imperialistic overtones. Butler’s whistleblowing stopped the plotters plans.

Butler coming forward resulted in congressional hearings. However, there seemed to be almost an air of unreality about the hearings, along the lines of “whatever happened, it couldn’t possibly have been seriously intended to be a coup’. That view, presumably created or at least encouraged by wealthy powerful
people in positions of power or influence, portrayed the plot as drunken idle cocktail talk, but there seem to be more to it. My father’s name eventually came out as one of the people involved.

That’s my dear old dad. So you might conclude I come by my anti-democratic, perhaps treasonous, tendencies honestly. But note my dad’s position of U S senator, which gives the appearance of commitment to democracy, perhaps even the appearance of a desire to serve the people. Dad was an eastern Republican and was even liberal on some social issues, specifically birth control and planned parenthood.

Who am I?

Next time it’s back to my career.

Editorial…and a few questions to ponder; by Chuck Duboff

big bro

@Chuck Duboff

During these next few weeks, you will notice significant changes happening on this blog. In today’s Winnipeg Free Press there is an editorial which states that the “selfie mayor” must start doing more. On July 4th I stated in my Saturday Morning Random Thoughts: “* Brian Bowman: at some point the citizens of Winnipeg get tired of smiles and want to see substance; you made a lot of promises…instead of smiles, let’s see something constructive.” One of the big changes you will notice is a return to hard hitting questions and blogs. Whether it is the ugly racism which exists in Canada, the United States and through out the world or discussing Neil Young’s attack on Monsanto or questioning the paranoia, lies and spying of the Harper Government…Recently one of my friends, Don Lofondale, contributed some interesting writing on JFK…you will see more of this kind of writing.

There will be a return to Saturday Morning Random Thoughts and Sunday Morning Music…there will be no hard and fast number of blogs, but rather when the mood suits, blogs will appear…the poetry will be edgy, the blogs will have substance and the questions will be hard hitting…there will be a return to the questioning, opining, standing up for what is right which I exhibited during the 15 years of fighting for Human Rights…I wasn’t awarded the Manitoba Human Rights Award in 2006 for being a good guy, but rather standing up for what is right and just. Expect more of that.

As Neil Young stated: “It’s better to burn out, than to fade away”

And now…some thoughts and questions to ponder:

The United States needs Bernie Saunders…much more than Hilary Clinton and the 16 clowns running for the Republicans. But you know that big money and the Military Industrial Complex will make his campaign irrelevant.

How much longer will Winnipeg’s entitled continue to make uninformed comments about living downtown; from what I read there are murders, drug deals, and white collar crime in Charleswood, Tuxedo, East Kildonan, City Hall and the Leg…I’ve lived downtown for 18 years and have never once experienced any of the delusional problems which so many fabricate.

Little did we know Atticus!!! It is so thrilling to see the excitement surrounding Harper Lee’s new novel: Go Set a Watchman. Though there has been a great deal of shock to see the way in which Atticus’ character evolves…it is so gratifying to see techie society still embrace good literature.

…and with that I sign off today…take a minute to think about this: “Evil Will Flourish When Goodness Remain Silent.”

JFK WHO AM I? Person 1, Part 2…by Don Lofendale

Oil and Finance and Secret Societies

While my main claim to fame is in the public realm, I am a wealthy businessman, who came from inherited wealth, and who made a fortune in the oil industry and finance. I also made powerful friends when I attended Yale and was tapped for membership in the Skull and Bones secret society.

Having familiarity with secret organizations and having an upper class back ground, the writer would tell you, I likely joined the CIA early in adulthood, perhaps as early as my graduation from Yale. At minimum there is little doubt I was a CIA agent before the assassination of JFK, that is around my mid to late 30’s. Later in my life, roughly around age 50, my association with the CIA was publicly announced on a go forward basis.
However, I would deny this association with the CIA (other than the public announcement of course) because it is part of my hidden history. People would have been much more nervous about my power and prominence if they knew I had been a CIA agent basically all my adult life.

Bay of Pigs – Operation Zapata

Fidel Castro and his troops march into Havana and oust President Batista January 1, 1959. It wasn’t long before Castro realizes the Americans aren’t that warm to him, because Batista let America have its way with the country and Castro wasn’t agreeable to that. Castro then cozies up the Soviets and announces he is a communist.

The last year of the administration of President Eisenhower is in part about plots to remove Castro from power. The Eisenhower White House, with Vice President Richard Nixon as the point man began to work with the CIA, who in turn was working with anti-Castro Cuban exiles to invade Cuba and overthrow Castro. The invasion was planned for the fall of 1060, but bad weather prevented it from occurring.

Kennedy as the Democratic Party nominee for president for the November 1960 election, was briefed on the plan. Kennedy knew it was postponed until the spring, but nevertheless, playing dirty politics, accused his Republican opponent, Vice President Richard Nixon of doing nothing about Castro. Nixon couldn’t reveal the secret plans, while Kennedy pretended he didn’t know about them.

Kennedy takes office in January, 1961 and inherits the plan, code named “Operation Zapata” and within three months of taking office, has to make a decision on whether or not to go forward with it. Kennedy’s advisors, including specifically those in the CIA, told him that major American military power wouldn’t be necessary to overthrow Cuba. Rather the CIA and others told him that once an invading force of anti-Castro Cuban exiles landed, the Cuban people, upon learning of the invasion by anti-Castro Cubans, would rise up, join the counter-revolution and overthrow Castro themselves. This was all a lie, but the young President, just three months into his presidency, decided to listen to the experts, even though he was skeptical about their advice on this point He was willing to be proven wrong and his expert advisors proven right. The operation became publicly known by the name of the invasion site, the Bay of Pigs.

Kennedy and Cuba

My Role

An objective observer would likely conclude I was involved in Operation Zapata and specifically that I used some of my wealth to buy old ships to help transport CIA sponsored anti Castro Cubans living in exile in the U.S.,back to Cuba for the purpose of overthrowing Castro.

One clue of my in involvement in Operation Zapata is the fact two ships used in the operation were given the name of my wife and my home city respectively. I had a habit of naming vehicles after my wife. During World War II, I named my plane after her. When it was destroyed, I named my new plane after her. Also, the name of my oil company was Zapata. The fact of my involvement with the CIA is on the record and undisputed, later in my life, but the writer is telling you that I have been involved with it possibly my entire adult life and certainly before th JFK assassination— which I deny to this day.

Effect of Pay of Pigs

The invasion was a disaster. The invaders were trapped on the beach; the Cuban people did not turn against Castro. The writer would tell you the CIA knew there would be no uprising and the invading anti-Castro Cuban exiles would be killed on the beach or arrested—-absent substantial military power. This was all part of the CIA plan. They lied to the exiled invaders and told them that the President would authorized substantial American military might, once they invaded——otherwise the exiles would not have invaded, because they knew the operation would fail and they would be killed on the invasion beach or jailed. The CIA had lied to the President as noted so that he would authorize the invasion. The CIA’s real plan was that when the uprising failed to occur, they believed the young president, wanting to avoid a humiliating defeat, would commit additional American military firepower to the cause.
However, the CIA types mis-measured the man. The President didn’t panic and try to save face. He refused to be manipulated into adding American troops. Instead he took public responsibility for the operation’s failure. Behind the scenes however, knowing he’d been lied to, he took decisive action. He, somewhat gently, fired CIA Director Alan Dulles and the two deputy directors most involved in planning the operation, Richard Bissell and General Charles Cabell. The writer says “gently fired” because he eased them out several months after the fact, to allow them to save face.

Further, the Kennedy White House leaked to a friendly reporter that Kennedy knew he had been lied to, was furious and planned “to splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds”. He later took steps to do just that, by making the military responsible for peace time, not just war time, covert operations. He did this because the military has a chain of command, while intelligence agencies, like the CIA, has been described as “a wilderness of mirrors.”

Many people suspect that the Bay of Pigs was the first nail in Kennedy’s coffin. The anti-Castro Cubans, seeing their comrades shot down in the invasion or jailed, didn’t blame their CIA handlers for the operation’s failure, they blamed the President. Similarly, with the firing of three high profile, mostly upper class, men from the CIA, the intelligence community and the families of upper class wealthy men, who are disproportionately present at high levels in the CIA, knew the young president could not be intimidated or manipulated and that worst of all, he would now follow his judgement, not their advice.

Many people have concluded that members of the CIA involved in the plots to overthrow Castro and angry anti-Castro Cubans working with the CIA are the bottom and second or third from the bottom, groups of people involved in the plot to kill Kennedy.

Back to the point at hand. I would of course be part of this group on the CIA side. In addition I was a member of the upper class. We don’t like it when presidents have vision and courage; when they can’t be intimidated or manipulated.

Another FBI memo

One more amazing detail about the suspicions of many people that I was already a CIA agent involved in plots to overthrow presidents (Castro in Cuba), at the time of the JFK assassination. It is another FBI memo that came to light many years after the assassination. This one written by FBI Director Hoover himself.

It is a file memo detailing a meeting in which Hoover states that the day after the assassination he “briefed Mr. (insert my name) of the CIA”. The writer would tell you that the meeting occurred because as one of conspirators, I wanted to find out what the authorities knew or suspected, but I wouldn’t have been able to get a meeting with Hoover with my above ground identity of wealthy businessman. I wanted this meeting to gain intelligence on what the police forces knew, but the writer would say this information had become more crucial than we plotters thought it would be.

Oswald, the writer would say, was almost certainly supposed to be killed, not captured. One doesn’t want the patsy talking; particularly a patsy who might know a little bit. Kennedy was killed Friday, Oswald silenced Sunday. My meeting with Hoover was Saturday. The writer would say we were particularly desperate to know if the investigation had moved beyond Oswald, loudly denying involvement, or whether there was still time to have him killed, while the Lone Oswald fairy tale was still viable. Maybe I would have met with Hoover even if Oswald had been killed immediately, but his survival made this meeting critical. We had to know what the police agencies knew and were thinking.

Lies and Helpful Co-incidence

The writer would tell you that the CIA trained me to lie by claiming to not remember events rather than by directly speaking a lie. This is a useful technique because one then does not leave a disprovable story for others to discover. The police often use this this technique in reverse when they have a suspect for a crime, where they don’t have direct evidence of guilt, they try to get the suspect to make statement— not necessarily a confession— rather any statement in relation to the crime. Then even without direct evidence of guilt or a confession, they can get a conviction based on proving the statement false and thereby prove consciousness of guilt, a guilty mind.

I ran into a real problem when this second memo, referenced above, came to light. The press asked me about it and I panicked and forgot the proper way to lie: I just denied the meeting occurred. Realizing I’d made a terrible error, I soon had a spokesman retract my denial and replace it with my standard lie that I couldn’t remember. I was fearful about this situation, because of the sensational contents of the memo and because I had contradicted myself.

Then I caught a break. I have a name that is not entirely uncommon, so we said that it must have been a different person with the same name. And sure enough there was another CIA employee with the same first and last name as me back in ’63. Wouldn’t you know it, the press located him. He confirmed he was a CIA employee at that time but noted he was a junior mapmaker and didn’t have the position, status, clearance, ability or need to meet with Hoover. But at least it gave a veneer of plausibility to my statement that I hadn’t met Hoover the day after the assassination.

So let me add up this new information for you

· I (or a map maker with my name) met with FBI Director Hoover, the day after the assassination to be briefed on it.
· Which meeting I first denied, then claimed to not remember

· I began a prominent, publicly acknowledged, association with the CIA when I was around 50.

· I likely secretly joined the CIA after I was tapped into a secret society of a somewhat different sort, the Skull and Bones, but at minimum was a CIA agent at the time of the Bay of Pigs or Operation Zapata and therefore at the time of the JFK assassination—-all of which I would deny.

Who Am I?

If you don’t yet know, but think I must be something of a scamp or scallywag, or treasonous traitor, wait until I tell you about my father. Perhaps his actions will clue you in, to who I am.

JFK ASSASSINATION – WHO AM I? – PERSON One – Part 1…by Don Lofendale

I (the writer) was a 10 year old little boy when President Kennedy was assassinated. But that day is seared in my mind permanently. I remember where I was when I heard the news, what I was doing, who told me and everything else about that day. I have a friend who was 8 when it happened and who also remembers it and one who was 6 who does not. So somewhere around 8 is probably the critical age for remembering that dark day.

When the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy came and went, it was shocking, but not surprising that the mainstream media, failing society yet again, trotted out the tired, old discredited Lone Oswald theory of the assassination. Shocking because the alternate and less mainstream media has produced considerable evidence against the Lone Oswald theory, particularly after the Assassinations Records Review Board disclosed approximately two million more pages of information related to the assassination. Unsurprising because the mainstream media is part of, what in my day we called ‘the establishment’.

I became a student of the JFK assassination and have remained one for 25 – 30 years. The plan here is to write about a few of the many remarkable stories about the President’s assassination. I will assume readers have no particular knowledge of the assassination other than the fact JFK was assassinated and that it is typically stated his assassin was Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO) a communist lone nut upset with Kennedy for vague reasons, but probably related to 1he American government’s attempts to overthrow the government of Cuban President Fidel Castro.

Oswald was said to have assassinated the president by firing three shots at him from the sixth floor of his workplace, the Texas School Book Depository, after the President’s motorcade passed by the building.

There are many reasons to believe that Kennedy was killed as the result of a conspiracy, particularly if one looks at the evidence as a whole, but the basic reason to believe it is that between 30 and 53 ear witnesses in Daley Plaza heard a shot fired from the right front of Kennedy’s car, the infamous grassy knoll, A lone nut can’t shoot from two (or more) places at the same time and still be a sole assassin.

Time for a who am I.

With this particular game of who am I, I (the writer) will strung out the information and the subject’s identity over a few episodes or parts, because there is so much information, some of it a touch mind boggling and because some will find his identity surprising, perhaps shocking.

My name is now (July 2015) known to people around the world and has been for 35 – 45 years. Well known first in America and then around the world. I come from a prominent wealthy family. In 1963, I was well into adulthood, but not prominent personally, except locally to some extent. Strangely, I am one of the few people alive at the time of the assassination who claims to not remember where he was when JFK was assassinated on Dallas November 22,1963.

My implausible claim of not remembering is made more implausible because

— for at least part of the day I was in Dallas and
—shortly after the assassination, that is, within an hour or two of the shots being fired I phoned the FBI with a tip on who the assassin might be (not LHO).

To sum up, I was in Dallas for at least part of the day JFK was assassinated there and phoned in a tip to the FBI regarding the identity of a possible identity of the assassin, yet claim to not remember where I was when he was killed.
