  • It’s snowing this morning, no really, it’s snowing this morning…after just a beautiful spring day yesterday!!  It’s freakin snowing this morning.
  • Day 5 of no elevators in our building…my legs feel like rubber going up and down those 8 flights of stairs.  Starting to feel locked in, claustrophobic.
  • Did I happen to mention that I was sitting at the ballpark yesterday, under a beautiful warm sun…the weather so nice the Goldeyes could have played…and this morning…SNOW!!   SNOW!!   NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • It feels like we are mere moments away from WWIII…Russia flying jets within miles of both the USA and Canada; North Korea flaunting its nuclear mite; China, a behemoth flexing its muscle with North Korea…and Donald Trump playing golf, while trying to decide whether or not to Nuke North Korea!!

  • That home run that the Yankees Aaron Judge hit against the Chicago White Sox  on Wednesday, has just landed in New Jersey…man oh man oh man…did he destroy that pitch!!  Super star in the making!!


  • After all of these years of watching the Yankees sign over the hill stars, it is so refreshing to watch some young blood on this team; and they’re playing well without two of their young stars, Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregorious.  It’s nice getting some solid starting pitching and seeing players like Starlin Castro, Chase Hedley and Matt Holiday really contributing.
  • If the Jets had Mike Babcock behind the bench and Fredrick Anderson in net, they’d be in the playoffs.  The Jets are far more talented than the Leafs, but Babcock has them playing a much more disciplined game than Paul Maurice could ever get out of the Jets.  It also doesn’t hurt when you get solid consistent goaltending.
  • Two weeks from today and the Winnipeg Goldeyes start training camp; without SNOW, please!!!
  • My dear, dear friend Lisa; yesterday was your birthday.  I can’t put into words how very much I miss you…I hope you have found some peace.  You just knew me, understood me…you displayed empathy when I needed it and lit into me like nobody else could.  You know my pain, you understand my pain…yet, you too, didn’t have the strength to carry on.
  • It’s amazing how many of Trump’s minions have fallen since he took office…from Mike Flynn to Bill O’Reilly, it is only scratching the surface…

You can’t make this stuff up…American spring break students, partying in Cancun, Mexico, chant: “Build the Wall”

Take a few minutes to process this: American students, enjoying the beauty, great weather and beaches of Cancun, Mexico, begin chanting: “Build the Wall.”  No, seriously; these half-wits, perhaps buzzed on too much Tequila, are a metaphor for the insanity overtaking the populace of the United States.  It is no wonder that when traveling the world, anywhere but the United States, even the mention of that country draws outright anger for what was once such a great country.

What Donald Trump (read: Steve Bannon) has unleashed upon the world, is beyond troubling.  Racism, hatred, disrespect, lying, lying and more lying, has given permission for seemingly all Americans to bring out their most vile behaviour.  When the President of the United States is spewing lies on a regular basis, when anti-semitism is tolerated, when hatred of Muslims and Jews and Mexicans and Gays is cheered, when the President proudly talks about “pussy grabbing”, when Russian operatives control the goings on in Washington…

It is no wonder that the youth of America goes down to the beaches of Mexico and taunts their hosts with chants of “Build the Wall.”  Perhaps next year they will celebrate Spring Break in Fargo, North Dakota.

This is Donald Trump’s America…

Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, married an Orthodox Jewish man; she converted to Judaism.  They have children…and these children are Donald Trump’s grandchildren.  Yet the President of the United States sits idly by, taking instructions from Steve Bannon, and does nothing as the ugly rise of Anti-Semitism emboldens itself.

When you hide your head in the sand and pretend like nothing is happening, the result is Muslims being shot, Mexicans being deported, Jews being targeted, blacks being threatened…this is the reality of Trump’s “Make America Hate Again.”  This is the America which Steve Bannon has dreamed of, an America pitting one group against another and allowing the White Nation to take over.

Before you read my words, please take the time to first watch the video.

Our media is obsessed with sensationalizing the negative, the hurtful, the racist, the depressing headlines.  CNN has stated their ratings are through the roof covering the disaster known as Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, fine young man as were seen in the video, demonstrate what it is to be a good citizen, to be kind, to give back to your community.  These young men are doing more to “Make America Great Again” than Herr Trump ever will.

Young Black Men in the United States are stereotyped, harassed and never given the benefit of the doubt.  These boys in the video show the world that with good parenting, anybody can turn out to be a fine young man or woman.  Black, Latino, White…it doesn’t matter, good parenting, positive role modelling, enhances every young person’s chance to lead a healthy life.

Perhaps the media should focus on stories like this one.  I would expect that initially there would be little interest in “good stories”; but with persistence and a dedication to improve society in United States…this could make a very positive difference. One would expect though that the bottom line is all that CNN and its sister networks care about and presenting good news stories doesn’t interest them.

There are great young people all across America, and I dare say Canada, attempting to make this a better world to live in…if the media put forth the same effort, respect and decency may return…and “making America Hate again” would disappear.

On Monday, President Trump, surrounded by his Old White Men Cabinet, reinstated a rule first instituted by President Reagan, which gave foreign nonprofits a stark choice: Stop providing abortions, or any information about abortions, or lose valuable dollars from the United States

It prohibits giving U.S. funding to international nongovernmental organizations that offer or advise on a wide range of family planning and reproductive health options if they include abortion

Pro-life officials and groups praised Trump’s action. “This is a vital step in the journey to make America great again, recognizing and affirming the universal ideal that all human beings have inherent worth and dignity, regardless of their age or nationality,”said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council.

Trump’s action, coming just two days after massive women’s marches around the world to protest his presidency, sparked a flurry of angry responses from Democratic lawmakers and women’s health organizations.

It would seem that Make America Great Again means returning to the days of the 1950’s, when women who needed an abortion were forced to resort to back alleys and the use of hangers.  There was nothing great about the America which the Old White Men of Trump’s cabinet are attempting to recreate.  It was a time of women in the kitchen, white men calling the shots and racism at every corner.  This is the vision of Trump’s Great America.

Jewish leaders and politicians have blasted the chair of the AfD’s Thuringia branch after he condemned the country’s ‘culture of remembering Nazi crimes’ and criticized Berlin’s Holocaust memorial.

Björn Höcke of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) was giving a speech to the group “Young Alternative Dresden” on Tuesday when he began discussing how Germany remembers its history.

He urged the country to end its ‘culture of remembering Nazi crimes’, adding that Germany must make a 180-degree change in how it reflects on the past, describing it as a “stupid coping policy”, according to broadcaster Deutschlandfunk.

“We Germans, our people, are the only people in the world who planted a memorial of shame in the heart of the capital city,” he said, referring to Berlin’s Holocaust memorial.

He also compared Chancellor Angela Merkel to Erich Honecker – the former socialist leader of East Germany who was put on trial for human rights abuses during the Cold War, including for the killing of people who attempted to flee the country.

When Höcke compared the Allied forces’ bombing of Dresden to the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, he received a round of applause.

He further described Germany’s frame of mind as “a brutally beaten people”.

“Instead of bringing up the new generation with the great philanthropists, the world famous, groundbreaking philosophers, the musicians, the ingenious explorers and inventors, of which we have many… maybe more than any other people in the world… and instead of exposing our students in schools to this history, the history – German history – is made into something rotten and ridiculous.”

The politician further said that both de-Nazification and the bombing of German cities had “cleared out our roots”.

Höcke also bashed the famous speech in 1985 by then President Richard von Weizsäcker, in which he called for Germany and all Germans to remember their historic responsibility in the crimes of the Nazis, marking 40 years after the end of the Second World War.

The AfD politician said Weizsäcker had made a “speech against his own people”.

The chair of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Josef Schuster, said he was shocked by the comments.

“The AfD have shown their true face with these anti-Semitic and extremely inhumane words,” Schuster said.

“I would have never believed that it would be possible for a politician in Germany to make such statements 70 years after the Holocaust.”

Höcke responded on Facebook on Wednesday, saying he was astonished by the media coverage of his speech. He defended his calling the Holocaust memorial a “memorial of shame,” saying he was also acknowledging Germans’ shame over the genocide.

“In my speech in Dresden, I was concerned with the question of how we Germans look back on our history and how this can can help us establish our identity in the 21st century. Undoubtedly, we must be aware in our self-assurance of our immense guilt. It is part of our history. But it is only part of our history,” he wrote.

“Guilt consciousness alone cannot create a healthy identity, but only a broken one. And it must also be clear to us that the integration problems that are all visible to us in this country also result from our broken identity.”

But Höcke did not comment on his other statements about city bombings, Weizsäcker, or “doing a 180” on remembering the Nazis’ crimes.

Opposing politicians have also condemned Höcke’s comments.

“Höcke held a rabble-rousing speech in Dresden, he wants to rewrite history,” wrote Social Democrat Ralf Stegner on Twitter.

Green party leader Simone Peter said that Höcke’s statements were “unspeakable”.

“The AfD must unmistakably distance themselves from this and apologize to our Jewish friends,” Peter said.

AfD politicians have stirred controversy before with statements seemingly sympathizing with Nazis or downplaying the Holocaust. It was revealed in September that one then newly elected member of the Berlin parliament had referred to civilian victims of the Nazis as “guerilla fighters” and said that killing them was “legal”.

Another politician described the Holocaust, in a book, as “certain infamous actions” and Holocaust deniers as dissidents.

Now is a time when none of us can afford to remain seated or silent. We must all stand up to be counted.

HIstory will demand to know which side were you on. This is not a question of politics or party or even policy. This is a question about the very fundamentals of our beautiful experiment in a pluralistic democracy ruled by law.

When I see neo-Nazis raise their hands in terrifying solute, in public, in our nation’s capital, I shudder in horror. When I see that action mildly rebuked by a boilerplate statement from the President-elect whom these bigots have praised, the anger in me grows. And when I see some in a pliant press turn that mild statement into what they call a denunciation I cannot hold back any longer.

Our Declaration of Independence bequeaths us our cherished foundational principle: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

These truths may be self-evident but they are not self-replicating. Each generation has to renew these vows. This nation was founded as an opposite pole to the capriciousness of an authoritarian monarch. We set up institutions like a free press and an independent court system to protect our fragile rights. We have survived through bloody spasms of a Civil War and a Civil Rights Movement to extend more of these rights to more of our citizens. But the direction of our ship of state has not always been one of progress. We interned Japanese Americans, Red Baited during the McCarthy era, and more. I feel the rip tide of regression once again swelling under my feet. But I intend to remain standing.

In normal times of a transition in our presidency between an incoming and outgoing administration of differing political parties, there is a certain amount of fretting on one side and gloating on the other. And the press usually takes a stance that the new administration at least deserves to have a chance to get started – a honeymoon period. But these are not normal times. This is not about tax policy, health care, or education – even though all those and more are so important. This is about racism, bigotry, intimidation and the spectre of corruption.

But as I stand I do not despair, because I believe the vast majority of Americans stand with me. To all those in Congress of both political parties, to all those in the press, to religious and civic leaders around the country. your voices must be heard. I hope that the President-elect can learn to rise above this and see the dangers that are brewing. If he does and speaks forcibly, and with action, we should be ready to welcome his voice. But of course I am deeply worried that his selections of advisors and cabinet posts suggests otherwise.

To all of you I say, stay vigilant. The great Martin Luther King, Jr. knew that even as a minority, there was strength in numbers in fighting tyranny. Holding hands and marching forward, raising your voice above the din of complacency, can move mountains. And in this case, I believe there is a vast majority who wants to see this nation continue in tolerance and freedom. But it will require speaking. Engage in your civic government. Flood newsrooms or TV networks with your calls if you feel they are slipping into the normalization of extremism. Donate your time and money to causes that will fight to protect our liberties.

We are a great nation. We have survived deep challenges in our past. We can and will do so again. But we cannot be afraid to speak and act to ensure the future we want for our children and grandchildren.

I was sickened to see this headline on CNN.  Giving time to the Alt-Right legitimizes their existence, hatred, bigotry.  CNN is no longer a news outlet…it is sensationalism for the purpose of boosting ratings.  Gone are the days of Bernard Shaw reporting on the news, not talking heads screaming at each other.  Where is the reporting on what is going on in North Dakota?  It would seem that CNN would rather fan the flames of a Nazi revival.  I have not turned on CNN since Election Night, I will find other sources for “new facts” which are occurring around the world.


 I am proud to be Jewish; this video speaks to me and I will stand up for the 6 million who can’t speak.

Early Wednesday morning, former KKK leader David Duke tweeted that Trump owes his victory to “THE SOUTH” alongside an image of whites waving Confederate flags.

David Duke, who once led the neo-Nazi, white-supermacist organization, tweeted the claim on election night.

“This is one of the most exciting nights of my life,” Mr Duke wrote.

“Make no mistake about it, our people have played a huge role in electing Trump!”


A young black girl was told when she got on the school bus Wednesday morning: “you should go sit in the back of the bus.”

After 8 years of a black president and the possibility of a woman in the presidency…these election results were a backlash by White America…a repudiation of social progress and most sadly a President elect who legitimized racism, sexism , hatred, xenophobia, misogyny, intolerance and bullying.

Sitting in a coffee shop writing these words…people seem numb and zombie like.

As I stated earlier this morning…I couldn’t feel more grateful being Canadian.  We are blessed to live in a country which at the very least has a goal of tolerance and decency…we may not be there, but I wouldn’t want to live in any other country in the world.
